Measurements: How to measure your area for sod.
Before you order you will need to determine how much sod you will need. You can either do this yourself or we will be happy to measure for you and provide you with a Free Estimate anywhere within 25 miles of our shop.
If you decide to measure yourself remember that all you need is a rough estimate to determine how many pallets of sod are required. Each pallet contains approximately 450 square feet of sod. This is roughly equal to a 21 foot by 21 foot square area or a 15 foot by 30 foot rectangular area.
Measuring
Once the dirt work is done and the soil is properly prepared it is time to measure and determine just how much sod is needed to cover the prepared area. Some yards are simple rectangles while others are a little more complex with curves and angles. The easiest way to measure a yard is to divide it up into several simple shapes such as smaller rectangles, triangles and circular areas. Measure each area and add the areas together to get the total area. Once the total area is determined, divide the total by 450 to get the required number of pallets. It is best to round up any partial amount to the next highest whole number. This will allow for any scrap pieces or loss while cutting in around driveways, mailboxes, trees, flower beds, and other obstacles in the yard. It is always better to have a little extra when the job is complete rather than come up a little short and not be able to finish the job.
